DOST conducts various S&T activities in the island Municipality of Tingloy

The pursuit in bringing science and technology closer to the people of Tingloy, Batangas continues!

Last April 25-26, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas conducted various S&T activities in the Municipality of Tingloy, Batangas to lay the grounds for possible technology deployment and rollout activities.

Two teams from DOST-Batangas were formed to conduct community meetings, technology needs and on-site assessments. The team was composed of Mr. Mhark Ellgine A. Libao, Mr. John Maico M. Hernandez, Mr. John Michael A. Florendo, Mr. Cedric L. Rodriguez, and Ms. Angelica D. De Sagun. The first team together with the staff from Odyssey Foundation, Inc. headed by Ms. Gelonie Yap, had a meeting with Ms. Justina C. Datingaling, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, to discuss their intention to conduct a three-month feeding program using the enhanced nutribun which their company, CDO Foodsphere Inc. in Malvar, Batangas, produces as a technology adoptor of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI). The discussion covered issues on malnutrition rate in the municipality, potential barangay beneficiaries, and the scheme of delivery and distribution. As agreed during the meeting, the feeding program will commence on the last week of May 2022.

The second team were deployed at Brgy. 15 and Brgy. San Juan, Tingloy, Batangas to conduct technology needs and on-site assessments. Together with Mr. Moris Ramos, Municipal Agriculturist, the team conducted an assessment of the potential sites for mud crab and tilapia farming using the technology of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) in both barangays. A technology needs assessment was also conducted at Brgy. San Juan with Masasa Irrigation Farmers, Inc. as the potential beneficiary. They have raised their concern regarding their irrigation system and what surfaces as a challenge in their farming activities. A consultative meeting with the National Irrigation Administration, Department of Agriculture, and DOST-PCAARRD is already on scheduled this May to harmonize efforts in assisting the farmers of Tingloy.

The conduct of these S&T activities are still part of DOST CALABARZON’s Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology program for the island Municipality of Tingloy.
